Europe by People
Europe by People was made in a process of co-creation with artists/makers/designers and scientists, for and with professionals and ‘regular’ audience.
We chose for an ‘open source’ method for making the programme, with a focus on participation, co-creation and social innovation, without compromising attention and care for artistic quality. This way, the project touched on Mare’s core values. It was an open invitation to professionals and ‘regular’ audience to create, imagine and tell stories. It led to many inspiring contributions, open for everyone to join in.
The programme consisted of the wall, a public art space, Fabcity, a self-sufficient and durable temporary campus and village, and On Stage, a performance art programme in Amsterdam and Brussels. Mare was partly responsible for the concept, content development, organisation and coordination. The total budget was around 4 million euros, and the team consisted of 20 fte professionals and a an large group of volunteers. The project was commissioned by the ministry of foreign affairs.
