The school is the future of the arts
Just before Covid-19, in January 2020, Marjo van Schaik became interim director. Under her leadership, the academy switched to online education and, in the second instance, to a hybrid form of education, in which the Covid rules were secured. She has also worked on a more open and clear cooperation structure and has started a social security project with students, teachers and artistic leadership. In addition, she has intervened in several cases around inappropriate behaviour, some of which are well known nationally.
The Academy for Theater and Dance offers young artists in their journey of life long learning the opportunity to find their own style, technique and language. The Academy wants to be a driving force for innovation, a research site and laboratory for the performing arts of the future. The motto is performing physician in transition.
Marjo van Schaik was strategic advisor in the preambule to the ‘tilted’ organizational structure, she coached the move of DasArts, master Choreography and the research department to A-lab in Amsterdam Noord and subsequently the merger to Das Graduate School. Also she has been strategic advisor for the Theatre in Education department. In addition, she was closely involved in the development of the Master Creative Producing.
